2011 Murdo in May CelebrationThe weather was dreary and rainy at this year’s Murdo in May celebration, but not the turnout. The event took place May 13-15, 2011, at Pioneer Auto Show, attracting hundreds of classic car and antique enthusiasts for the weekend-long event. This year’s Murdo in May featured a mega antique auction with a variety of furniture, collectibles and classic signs. The weekend also included a swap meet and car corral, which sold about 68 vehicles. The highest car sold was a 1947 Lincoln for $18,000. A family-friendly parade and live music in downtown Murdo rounded out the weekend’s festivities. Owner Dave Geisler was thrilled to expand the classic car museum’s collection following this year’s auction. Geisler obtained three of the rarest tractors known to exist – a 1953 Lanz, a 1969 Porsche and a 1971 Lamborghini—to display at Pioneer Auto Show. Next time you visit Pioneer Auto, you’ll see the Lanz, which hails from Mannheim, Germany. The Mannheim factory built steam engines and motor cultivators before producing the famous Lanz Bulldog in 1921. Over the next 30 years, nearly a quarter million of these tractors were built. In 1956, John Deere purchased Lanz – and by 1958, the Bulldog was being produced in John Deere green with Deere’s name appearing alongside Lanz. By the late 1960s, the Lanz name disappeared altogether. In the 1930s, Ferdinand Porsche began designing tractors, inventing the volk-schlepper, also known as the peoples’ tractor. No serious production began before World War II and post-war regulations prevented Porsche from building tractors after the war. Finally, after a licensing agreement with Allgaier, the Porsche tractor entered production again. At Pioneer Auto classic car museum, you’ll find these rare, newly-acquired historical tractors -- plus over 60 more antique tractors. You’ll also see our collection of 275 classic cars. As of June 2011, there are over 60 new models and vehicle manufacturers on display. So bring your family to Pioneer Auto Show this summer, where there is something for everyone to experience. Whether it’s a rare antique tractor, an old Coca-Cola machine, or a vintage car or motorcycle, there’s always something new.
